the treatment

For adults and children the Bowen treatment begins with a gentle rolling move performed each side of the lumbar (lower) spine. For babies the work is performed on the upper back.

After the first two moves are performed I leave the room for two to three minutes and the therapeutic wait time now begins. The wait time is an integral part of the treatment and allows your body to completely relax and directs the Bowen to where it needs to go. It is common during this time to experience sensations such as warmth, tingling or a general awareness of a particular area of the body – and not necessarily where prior symptoms have been experienced.

The wait times are an important part of the treatment as it gives your body time to process and respond to the Bowen – nothing is rushed. For some people they will require longer wait times between the Bowen moves. As sensations settle I then proceed with the next set of moves and then another wait time.

Having a Bowen treatment is not about cramming in as many moves as possible. It is about giving your body just enough stimulus and then allowing time for it to integrate the Bowen and respond.
